About Stainless Steel 904L Round bar/ Wire
Stainless steel 904L round bar is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel that is known for its corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive environments. The 904L alloy was originally developed to withstand environments containing dilute sulfuric acid, and has since been used in a variety of industries and applications, including chemical processing, oil and gas exploration, and marine environments.
The 904L alloy is composed of low carbon, high nickel, and molybdenum, with added copper to improve its resistance to strong reducing acids, such as sulfuric acid. This composition gives 904L stainless steel its excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting, as well as its ability to maintain its strength and toughness at high temperatures.
One of the key properties of 904L stainless steel is its high resistance to corrosion. This alloy is highly resistant to both pitting and crevice corrosion, even in environments containing chlorides, such as seawater. It also has excellent resistance to general corrosion and erosion corrosion, making it an ideal choice for applications in harsh environments, such as offshore oil and gas production and chemical processing. 904L stainless steel also has a high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, which is a type of corrosion that occurs under tensile stress. This makes it suitable for use in high-pressure and high-temperature environments, such as in process equipment and piping in the chemical and petrochemical industries.
In addition to its corrosion resistance, 904L stainless steel also has a high resistance to heat. It can maintain its strength and toughness at temperatures up to 800°F (427°C), making it suitable for use in high-temperature applications, such as in heat exchangers and furnace components. 904L stainless steel also has a high resistance to sulfuric acid, making it suitable for use in the chemical processing industry. It is also resistant to other strong acids, such as phosphoric acid and nitric acid, making it suitable for use in the fertiliser and food industries.
904L stainless steel is also highly weldable and has excellent machinability. This makes it easy to fabricate and form into a variety of shapes and sizes, making it suitable for use in a wide range of applications.
