About Stainless Steel 310/310S Flanges
In the high-temperature, stainless steel grade 310, 310S, and 310H ranges Flange are widely used. The Stainless Steel 310 Flanges are austenitic stainless steel flanges that resist oxidation and heat because they are made of a chromium-nickel alloy. With a composition of 24% chromium as well as 19% nickel, it is a chrome-nickel alloy. In addition, there are two categories of flanges according to their carbon content: 310S and 310H. These flanges are used for light cyclic activities in the fertiliser and chemical processing industries. Power generation, thermal processing, and furnaces operate at exceptionally high temperatures, necessitating flanges that can withstand such conditions. In such circumstances, SS 310 flanges are suitable because they are immune to carbide precipitation and have a more effective carbon content.
Properties of Stainless Steel 310/310S Flanges:
- Due to the low carbon content, these flanges are relatively simple to weld and construct.
- Because of their high thermal tolerance and good oxidation corrosion resistance, these flanges are employed in high-temperature duty settings susceptible to corrosion.
- The principal testing on these flanges are chemical, flattening, and cracking corrosion tests.
- The 310 material has a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa and a minimum compressive strength of 515 MPa.
- The material has an excellent elongation of 40% and a little lower density than grade 304 steel.
- These flanges are designed to connect pipes with male threads to welded or wrapped flanges with lines. When welding or bolting is not the best option, threaded flanges might be handy.
- The flanges become sulfidation resistant due to higher chromium levels and average nickel content.
- SS 310s Flanges, which combine outstanding high-temperature qualities with exceptional ductility and weldability, are intended for use in high-temperature service. If no reducing sulphur fumes are present, it can withstand continuous use at temperatures of up to 1150°C without succumbing to oxidation. At up to 1040°C, it is also employed for intermittent service.
- When moist corrodents are present in the application environment, and the temperature range is lower than what is often referred to as “high temperature” service, stainless steel 310S flanges are employed. Compared to 310, 310S has less carbon, which lessens its high-temperature strength.
- Bolting is used to connect flanges, and gaskets or other sealants are frequently used to complete the sealing process.
Applications of Stainless Steel 310/310S Flanges:
Stainless Steel 310/310S Flanges are utilised in various sectors, including chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and natural gas, fertilisers, sugar mills and distillery, construction, shipbuilding, paper, pumps, mechanisation, acrylics, and steel. Some other applications of these flanges include:
- It is employed in cementing, thermal cycling, oxidising, and nitriding applications.
- It is also considered a non-flammable material and highly resistant to marine atmosphere.
- These flanges aid in preventing leaks in high-pressure pipes.
- These flanges give access to a line for measuring liquids or gases.They can be mounted beside flow nozzles or orifice plates.
